Charlotte Hosts 1st Annual Platform Tennis Tournament

Charlotte, NC is the most recent southern city to embrace the great sport of Platform Tennis.

Thanks to the dedication of a great group of local enthusiasts & assisted by a grant from the American Platform Tennis Association (APTA), Charlotte now has two courts at Olde Providence Racquet Club.

The first ever APTA sanctioned tournament in Charlotte, NC was held Saturday Dec. 13, 2014.  The inaugural Olde Providence Paddle Classic had a full draw of 16 teams and the weather was perfect. Tournament participants came from Chapel Hill, NC; Winston-Salem, NC; Richmond, VA; Atlanta, GA; and Charleston, SC.

The winners were Randy Lofgren and Nathan Crick who defeated Steven Meyer and 2010 National Champion Jerry Albrikes in three highly entertaining sets 7-6(6), 4-6, 6-2. This is Randy Lofgren’s third straight Region 7 tournament title with 3 different partners. Paddle is really taking off in Charlotte and all through the south.

Tournament Director Zen Mottershead would like to thank sponsors Cape Cod Potato Chips, Dynamic Health & Pain Management, and Good Bottle for making the tournament possible. Can’t wait for next year’s tournament!

On behalf of Atlanta's Peachtree Paddle, Congratulations to Zen & the Whole Team in Charlotte - Well Done!
