THE STORY OF THANKSGIVING

The Story of Thanksgiving

The Pilgrims who came to Fox Meadow were originally members of the Puritan tennis sect. They had earlier fled their land of soft green clay and, with the cold weather fast approaching, initially sought refuge by constructing large temporary structures so they could continue their way of life indoors, sheltered from the harsh New England winter.  However, soon many became disenchanted, believing that remaining indoors was ungodly, and eventually left in search of a better life.

These Tennis Separatists embarked on a new pilgrimage that brought them to a new, but still somewhat familiar-looking, territory.  This new land was smaller, approximately 1/4th the size of their native land.  The surface was very gritty and was surrounded on all four sides by sturdy wire fence 12 feet high.  Thankfully, many of the laws and conventions were similar to their homeland and the Pilgrims’ skills, many of which had been learned and honed since childhood, were applicable in the new land.

When the Pilgrims set aground at Fox Meadow, their first attempts at survival in the new surroundings were devastating.  Initially, it was feared that not all of the Pilgrims would be able to endure in the new land.  However, with patient guidance from the natives, they adapted for the winter, celebrating with a splendid cornucopia, bountiful with ale.

Happy Thanksgiving to all!
